While doing my clinical rotations in Utica, NY, I had the opportunity to connect with medical students from other LECOM campuses. We expanded our medical knowledge while also getting to know one another and exploring the area. Choosing the right medical school starts with knowing yourself.
Dean of LECOM at Elmira, Dr. Terry encourages students to do "an introspective deep dive" and ask what kind of learning environment helps them do well.

His advice? "I would start from day one learning how to communicate," and, "the Problem-Based Learning curriculum at LECOM at Elmira will teach you that." Because becoming a great physician starts with learning how to connect with others.

In July 2024, I traveled with members of the International Medical Club to Antigua, Guatemala, for a medical service trip through International Volunteer HQ. During this experience, I gained valuable clinical exposure while serving diverse and underserved populations. Each day, the group visited different communities to provide essential medical services alongside local physicians, civilian volunteers, and translators. This opportunity offered meaningful hands-on experience in delivering compassionate care to those in need. Outside of volunteering, we immersed ourselves in Guatemalan culture by hiking volcanoes, taking traditional dance classes, and visiting Hobbitenango. - Josie Lorea, LECOM Bradenton

The largest benefit of the LECOM Seton Hill clinical curriculum to me was having an allotted vacation month in which I had enough time to study for board exams, which will benefit me greatly in the residency match. I also had enough time to finalize wedding plans and get married. It's safe to say that this allotted time is a great benefit to student well-being and mental health! - Geno Petrarca

As president, I have the privilege of representing LECOM nationally at conferences such as OMED (pictured here), Educating Leaders, and the AOA House of Delegates. These experiences have allowed me to connect with physicians, policymakers, and students across the country, gaining invaluable insight into the broader landscape of osteopathic medicine. Engaging in these national forums has strengthened my leadership, deepened my understanding of healthcare advocacy, and enriched my education by bridging classroom learning with real-world application and professional collaboration.

Give Kids a Smile reminds me why I chose dentistry—to make a difference in my community and help every child feel confident and cared for during their dental visit. It’s such a special day filled with learning, laughter, and compassion, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to help create positive dental experiences that kids will carry with them for life. Experiences like this remind me how much impact we can have beyond the classroom, both as students and future dentists.

I am a current D2 at LECOM Bradenton's SDM. I love being part of a dental program that takes a hands-on, non-traditional approach—one that truly prepares me for real doctor-patient relationships and clinical excellence. As a first-generation student, I wanted a school that would shape me into an exceptional doctor and empower me to make a difference in my future patients’ lives. - Angela Bylina

One of my favorite things about being a medical student at LECOM Elmira is the variety of outreach projects that I've had the opportunity to be involved with. This year I helped the Buffalo Bills host the Code Blue kickoff event to mark the beginning of the winter season in Buffalo, NY. It's very rewarding to be able to help my community not only by providing health care, but also by providing additional community resources.

Returning to Buffalo, NY for my clinical rotations has allowed me to take advantage of a great perk that LECOM offers its students -- free Buffalo Sabres tickets! I have enjoyed attending various sports events during my time at LECOM, both as a fan and as part of the medical team. - Jennifer Kachelmeyer
