College of Osteopathic Medicine

School of Pharmacy

  • The School of Pharmacy prepares pharmacists as members of a changing health care environment dedicated to patient-centered care.
  • LECOM Erie offers a year-round, three-year curriculum and a four-year, distance education pathway. The Bradenton campus has a four-year program. Students may enroll to earn concurrent degrees from our masters programs.
  • LECOM School of Pharmacy alumni are working in a variety of positions at retail and community pharmacies, hospitals, clinics and physician offices.

School of Dental Medicine

  • The School of Dental Medicine offers a patient-centered curriculum to train dentists to improve the health of their patients through preventive care.
  • Curriculum is modeled on Problem-Based Learning through small-group, case-based study for basic sciences.
  • Students receive early simulation and basic patient care clinical learning experiences and progress to community-based, primary care clinic experience in urban areas with the greatest need for dental care.

School of Podiatric Medicine

  • The School of Podiatric Medicine (SPM) is dedicated to preparing students for residency training through an innovative curriculum, scholarship opportunities, and service experiences focused on improving community health and wellness.
  • Podiatric students take many of their core courses alongside osteopathic medical students to foster early interprofessional collaboration.
  • Specific podiatric content is continuously incorporated directly into the shared clinical systems curriculum. The program builds lifelong learning and clinical reasoning by embedding case-based and evidence-based pedagogies throughout the curriculum.
  • Hands-on clinical experiences begin early in the first year during the Foundations in Podiatric Medicine Course and continue across all four years at a wide variety of rotation sites.
  • Rotations expose students to diverse clinical environments, providing active training at senior centers, veteran’s hospitals, rural clinics, and inner-city clinics. To maximize real-world third-year training, LECOM senior care facilities featuring practicing podiatric physicians are integrated into the student clinical experience to the fullest extent.
  • The curriculum utilizes enhanced learning technologies for educational delivery, including virtual platforms, simulation labs, e-learning, and emerging technologies for gait evaluation.
  • Students receive targeted instruction on specialized clinical technologies used in modern patient care, such as vascular, radiologic, and ultrasound equipment.
  • The program is designed so that cohort pass rates on Parts I and II of the APMLE meet or exceed national means.

School of Health Services Administration

  • The LECOM Masters in Health Services Administration program (50 credit hours) provides students with the skills required to plan, direct, and lead medical and health service organizations as administrators in hospital or other acute and subacute healthcare facilities, public health care organizations, pharmacies and private practice groups. The knowledge gained from the MHSA program is essential for fiscal. planning and managerial work in healthcare organizations and the establishment and management of clinical practices. Delivered concurrently via on-line distance education in medical student’s third and fourth years.
  • The LECOM Master of Science in Biomedical Ethics program (36 credit hours) will benefit future physicians seeking the mastery in biomedical & pharmacology ethics, health care compliance, patient-care management, risk management, and in medical research as well as palliative care and end-of-life care positions providing essential assistance to patients and their families. This program’s applied ethics education strives to move learners beyond knowledge acquisition and skills development to develop behavioral changes that result in a higher level of professionalism and the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. Delivered concurrently via online distance education in a medical student’s third and fourth.
  • The LECOM Masters in Public Health program (45 credit hours) is grounded in foundational public health knowledge. This includes administrative skills critical to improving and enhancing the health, health care, and well-being of individuals, families, and communities in North America by applying the philosophy of osteopathic medicine that seeks to treat the whole person mind body and spirit. Delivered concurrently via on-line distance education in medical student’s third and fourth years.
  • The LECOM Master of Science in Medical Cannabinoid Therapeutics program (45 credits) is designed to prepare health professionals to contribute to population-based, culturally appropriate, and innovative approaches concerning the rapidly expanding medical cannabinoid therapeutic industry. The program builds upon foundational osteopathic principles and competencies focused on whole person care, mind, body, and spirit.
  • The DHA program prepares health industry professionals to become innovative leaders and complex problem solvers. The degree program qualifies professionals to serve as college faculty members, preparing them to teach and perform interprofessional research focused on “the business of healthcare”. They are also prepared as advanced healthcare administrative practitioners. The theoretical and the practical are blended in this rigorous doctorate degree program.

Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences

The LECOM Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences offers master and doctoral-level training in a number of areas preparing students for a career as a clinician, educator or researcher.

  • LECOM offers a one-year, non-thesis Master of Medical Science (MMS) degree at our Erie, Pa., and Bradenton, Fl. Campuses. The mission of the MMS program is to academically, scientifically, and professionally prepare students to attend a professional program, such as osteopathic medical. dental. podiatry or pharmacy school.
  • The LECOM Master of Science in Biomedical Science program offers a research-focused curriculum concurrent with the DO program for students who are a strong research background and/or are interested in a career as a physician-researcher. The MSBS program is a graduate-level program available to current first year medical students at the Erie Campus that serves as a structured research experience. Through coursework, research design, ratory experience, and a comprehensive research project, the MSBS program will produce graduates qualified for clinical medicine able to develop.
  • The LECOM Master of Science in Medical Education Program (32 credit hours) is for those who desire to become educator-scholar leaders with emphasis on teaching the next generation of healthcare providers, patient education, leadership and research. Past students included current medical, pharmacy, and dental students, transitional rotating interns, international medical school graduates (IMGs), and off-cycle medical school graduates who desired to strengthen their applications for residency by having a thesis-based research project, designated research mentor, and conference presentations.
  • The DAE program is a 4-year program that provides a doctoral-level curriculum in the anatomical sciences. Students will be required to complete teaching practicums and conduct original research in anatomy education. Graduates of this program will be highly knowledgeable and skillful anatomy education specialists who will be well equipped to train the next generation of health care providers. As a result, graduates will be highly marketable and sought after.
  • The Doctoral Program in Medical Education produces medical education scholars for academic and clinical institutions. With the increasing number of new osteopathic and allopathic medical schools and residency programs, expertise in academic leadership, accreditation, administration, faculty development, and research/scholarship are of increasing importance. This program builds upon the foundation developed from the LECOM Master of Science in Medical Education program to develop doctoral-level educator-scholar leaders. Its innovative curriculum is delivered online to provide temporal and spatial flexibility for busy professionals.
  • The Doctoral Program in Medical Microbiology Education is designed to prepare students to become teaching faculty at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Students will be required to complete teaching practicums and conduct original research in Medical Microbiology education. Graduates of this program will be highly knowledgeable and skillful Medical Microbiology education specialists who will be well equipped to train the next generation of health care providers. As a result. graduates will be highly marketable and sought after.
  • The Doctoral Program in Pharmacy Education features an innovative curriculum designed to train students in pharmaceutical and clinical sciences, pedagogical principles, and scholarship of teaching and learning. Students will complete laboratory-based. lecture-based. and online coursework in pharmaceutics, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, pharmacotherapeutics, drug information, and educational theory; as well as teaching practicums, journal clubs, and educational research. Graduates will be adept in delivery of pharmaceutical and clinical sciences content utilizing a variety of curricular techniques.

Facilities

  • Each campus building in Erie, Bradenton and Elmira provides expansive teaching and learning areas and includes the latest teaching technology. The LECOM Bayfront Campus and the John M. and Silvia Ferretti Medical Fitness and Wellness Center in Erie provide additional space for education and student activities. In Greensburg, LECOM utilizes classroom space at Seton Hill University.
  • LECOM is a member of LECOM Health, the nation’s only osteopathic academic health center that includes LECOM Medical Center and the clinical practices managed by Medical Associates of Erie. Other members of LECOM Health include Corry Memorial Hospital, LECOM Senior Living Center, LECOM Senior Living Communities, LECOM Medical Fitness and Wellness Center, LECOM Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, LECOM Center for Health and Aging, and Visiting Nurses Association of Erie County. LECOM students learn and work in all of these facilities.
