LECOM Scholar Leads Boys and Girls Club Program

Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) Class of 2026 scholar, Eleanor Tung-Hahn, is passionate about community service and educational outreach.

Eleanor Tung-HahnEvery day, Boys and Girls Clubs (BGC) across America provide children with a safe after-school space to learn and thrive, often while their parents are working.

Last year, Tung-Hahn initiated a program with BGC that brought interactive awareness about sun safety, healthy skin tips, and common dermatology conditions to middle and high school students. The collaborative program, with support from the Women’s Dermatologic Society, has thrived, and recently, the group added a basic nutrition component.

Key directors at BGC Polk County (Winter Haven), BGC Manatee (De Soto and Palmetto), BGC New Jersey (Clifton), and most recently, BGC Orlando helped to make this new initiative possible.
Beyond the presented topics, BGC students enjoyed inquiry exchanges about academic paths with Tung-Hahn and another BGC leader, Elise Keshock (UCF COM), as well as with pre-med students, Ellie Black (Colgate) and Isabel Donaldson (UCF).

Many youngsters who attended these programs were interested in science and particularly, in the health sciences such as STEM.

“Beyond caring for patients, there is nothing more important than paying it forward as a physician – mentoring, helping, and supporting young people to navigate a successful future,” stated Tung-Hahn.

LECOM is proud of the initiative and innovative community missions undertaken by its dedicated scholars.
