Individuals granted Internet access via LECOM computers are expected to use the Internet to enhance the performance of their work and study responsibilities.
Protection of School Materials:
No individual shall upload school materials, including copyrighted software, internal correspondence, or confidential materials, to any publicly accessible Internet site without prior permission.
Privacy and Confidentiality:
The Internet does not guarantee the privacy and confidentiality of information. Sensitive material transferred over the Internet, including through FTP and Email, may be at risk of detection by a third party. Caution must be exercised when transferring such material in any form.
Copyright and Patents:
It is against federal law and LECOM policy to violate the copyrights or patents of others on or through the Internet. Students, faculty, and staff are prohibited from downloading or using copyrighted material without obtaining written authorization. Only computers with up-to-date and anti-virus software will be granted Internet access.
Unacceptable Uses of the Internet:
Use for illegal purposes.
Downloading or using copyrighted materials.
Any use for commercial or for-profit purposes.
Using software in violation of license and/or software agreements.
Any use for product advertisement.
Promotion of personal political beliefs.
Accessing or processing pornographic material.
Conducting shopping, stock trading, and other personal business.
Downloading music files.
Distribution unsolicited materials to other, including peer-to-peer file sharing.
Policy Determinations:
LECOM reserves the right to make determinations on whether specific uses are consistent with acceptable use policies.
This policy is established to ensure responsible and lawful use of the Internet within the LECOM community. Violations may results in disciplinary action.
