COM Comlex Pass and Graduation Match Rates - LECOM Education System

COM Comlex Pass and Graduation Match Rates

Beginning in 2013, the Standards for Accreditation for Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) were amended to include a requirement for all COMs to report certain data to the public.  The specific standard is presented below:

Standard 8.5

The COM must annually report publicly, beginning with the 2014/15 academic year, from the previous four academic years, the following data (a. and b. below) on its website, in its catalog, and in all COM promotional publications that provide information about the COM’s education for prospective students.  The COM may use a reference to this data as to where it can be found on the COM’s website.

a. The number of students from each graduating class who applied to and obtained or were offered placement in a graduate medical education program accredited by the American Osteopathic Association or the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the military, and the number of students from each graduating class who applied to and were unable to obtain placement in an accredited graduate medical program.1

b. The first time pass rate of its graduates on the COMLEX-USA Level 3 exam.2

1. The number of students who sought placement into GME and were successful is obtained from the AACOM Annual Report as used to prepare the “GME Accountability Report” in Standard 8.3.  This is the value that is to be published by the COM.

2. The COMLEX-USA Level 3 examination first time pass rates are reported as an aggregate score to all COMs for a single year period.  This is the value that is to be published by the COM.

The following information is presented as LECOM’s response to Standard 8.5.  LECOM has three campuses.  The LECOM at Seton Hill campus, located in Greensburg, PA, is an additional location, which opened in 2009 and graduated its first class in 2013.  Since LECOM at Seton Hill is an additional location, all student- related data is included with the Erie campus data.  LECOM Bradenton is a branch campus and their student-related data is presented separate from the Erie campus data.

Standard 8.5 a Graduation match data:

Number of students from each graduating class who applied to and obtained/were offered placement in a graduate medical education program (AOA or ACGME or military), and the number of students from each graduating class who applied to and were unable to obtain placement in an accredited graduate medical program.  To see detailed match information, please click here.

Standard 8.5 b LECOM Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Exam (COMLEX) Pass Rate

What are the COMLEX exams?

All Osteopathic medical students are required to take COMLEX Levels 1, 2, and 3.  The National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) website (www.nbome.org) provides the following description of the COMLEX exams:

“The COMLEX-USA series is designed to assess the osteopathic medical knowledge and clinical skills considered essential for osteopathic generalist physicians to practice medicine without supervision. COMLEX-USA is constructed in the context of medical problem-solving which involves clinical presentations and physician tasks.”  For additional information on the NBOME and COMLEX exams, please refer to the website.

Students take the COMLEX Level 1 following completion of their second year and Level 2 after completion of their third year.  Level 3 must be taken after graduation and prior to entry into the OGME-3 year of residency.
