Overview of Pharmacy Residency Programs

LECOM Medical Center (LMC), the LECOM Institute for Successful Living (LISL) and the LECOM School of Pharmacy offer a Post-Graduate Year One (PGY1) Residency and a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency with a focus in ambulatory care. Both PGY1 residencies are 12-month programs. The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is accredited by the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP), and the PGY1 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency is a candidate for accreditation. The residency programs provide substantial teaching opportunities through the LECOM School of Pharmacy, including delivery of didactic lectures and involvement in active learning and clinical skills assessments. Additionally, residents have the opportunity to work with other health care professionals in a multidisciplinary environment within the LECOM Health system, including LECOM Medical Center, Corry Memorial Hospital, the LECOM Senior Living Centers, and the LECOM Institute for Successful Living.

Residency Programs

The residency programs offered at LMC/LECOM provide residents with comprehensive pharmacy practice experience in a variety of clinical settings. Pharmacy residents play a key role in the development and implementation of patient treatment plans in collaboration with a dedicated team of interdisciplinary health care professionals. They are also highly involved in the education of pharmacy students, house staff, and other healthcare professionals within the LECOM Health network.

To meet the challenges of residency and a career in clinical pharmacy, our program provides a multitude of direct patient care experiences to develop the necessary confidence, competence and proficiency essential for teaching, administration, therapeutic drug monitoring, nutrition support, and clinical decision-making.

In addition, all residents will participate in research, with the goals of presenting a poster at the ASHP Midyear meeting, presenting research findings at a regional conference, and submission of a manuscript acceptable for publication. Residents also have the option of participating in either a teaching certificate or Master of Science in Medical Education (MSMEd) program.

PGY1 Program Purpose Statement (ASHP)

PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on pharmacy education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication- related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
