Ellen Collins, OMS II, was an intern at LECOM's Regency at South Shore this summer through the Bridging the Gaps community service internship.

"My Bridging the Gaps experience has taught me so much, both in my personal and professional life. It has taught me that everyone, no matter what age or what stage of life they are in, deserves to be embraced, celebrated, and cared for.”

"The Regency at South Shore residents enjoy attending lifelong learning sessions, such as my Dental Jeopardy game. We learned the importance of good oral hygiene and the connection between the mouth and the body. The residents also love to have fun! The staff at the Regency hosted a Wash and Roll, and the residents got into some mischief with some water fun.

Steps to Success - Yesterday at LECOM SPM, we were thrilled to host PowerStep and distinguished podiatric surgeon Dr. Nicholas Campitelli (known globally to social media followers as "Dr. Nick") for an engaging educational session with our students!

To make the day even more special, PowerStep presented a $10,000 donation to the LECOM Student Scholarship Fund!

This generous gift directly supports our mission to keep medical education accessible, reduce student debt, and empower the next generation of podiatric leaders—including many first-generation healthcare professionals.

Welcome, Dr. Christine B. Czerwinski, DO, Assistant Dean of Clinical Education, LECOM Bradenton

Dr. Czerwinski brings more than a decade of experience in pediatric medicine, medical education, and academic leadership. Most recently, she served as Director of Medical Education at Evara Health, where she led medical student education and clinical training programs, demonstrating a strong commitment to mentoring future physicians and advancing clinical excellence. We are excited to welcome Dr. Czerwinski to the LECOM family and look forward to the leadership, expertise, and dedication she will bring to our students, faculty, and clinical partners. “Connected, Grounded, and Moving Forward”

Despite the busy-ness of medical training, my husband and I make a conscious effort to prioritize quality time together. We plan simple evenings, shared dinners, and occasional small getaways when our schedules allow. On most nights, we wind down by watching crime shows, exercising together when we can, and checking in with each other before bed.

Prioritizing family time has become even more important since we welcomed our baby this past year. Balancing the challenges of medical training with life as a wife and mother has not been easy, but these daily moments with my family keep me connected, grounded, and moving forward.

Steinbrenner Field is home to the New York Yankees spring training and their affiliate team, the Tampa Tarpons.

From MMS to DO ...
Looking back at my time in the Master of Medical Science program in 2022, the experience that encouraged me to apply to medical school and helped shape who I am today. Being part of the Lecture-Discussion Pathway at LECOM Erie taught me how to work with others and introduced me to incredible classmates, mentors, and friends who have supported me throughout my journey.

In this video, I am finishing my primary care rotation month. I have learned so much, and LECOM has truly prepared me for it. Even though I am applying to anesthesiology, the skills I have gained are important in any specialty. Now, as a proud member of the Class of 2026, I am grateful for how far this journey has taken me and excited to start residency this upcoming fall!
