We're talking GME! Regional Deans are meeting this week at the LECOM Consortium for Academic Excellence conference - the report? 1,101 first-year residencies at 42 health systems - paving the way for our students whose Graduate Medical Education is firmly in place and designed for success.

We love gathering with our affiliates to exchange ideas and explore further how we can guide our students to success in the career they're dreaming of!

As a second-year LECOM Bradenton dental student, a large portion of my schedule is spent inside the simulation lab, learning techniques (such as certain preps and restorations) vital for my future career in dentistry. Fortunately, one thing I love about LECOM is the SIM lab! From my seat, I can look out through the large windows at the palm trees and the pond, making it a peaceful and beautiful place to practice. Another great aspect of the simulation lab is that it is often available for practicing after hours. As we all know, practice makes perfect! LECOM’s open lab hours every evening and on the weekends allow me to get in all the practice that I need to become a successful future dentist. - Laci Wright

Congratulations to Pablo Cruz, a first-year pharmacy student who participated in the 2026 Cali ParaAthletics Grand Prix, representing Puerto Rico on September 17th. He received a silver medal in the javelin throw and a bronze medal in the discus throw.

Along with his medals, he qualified for the World ParaAthletics Championships taking place in Uzbekistan in June 2027, as well as for the Parapan American Games in Lima, Peru, in 2027.

He stated, "I will continue giving it my all to achieve my dream of competing in the 2028 Paralympic Games, as I am very close to hitting the qualifying mark."

LECOM was recently a sponsor of the Buffalo Sabres Foundation Golf Tournament, which raises money for local organizations and brings together fans, Sabres players, broadcasters, and others for an 18-hole scramble with lunch, prizes, and an auction.

LECOM’s Dr. Vincent Fierro, Dr. Anthony Colonna, and Standardized Patient Coordinator Martin Kelly played with Rasmus Dahlin of the Buffalo Sabres.

"LECOM Bradenton's PBL curriculum made me a self-directed learner early on, and that habit has never left me. Being pushed early on to teach myself, ask better questions, and drive my own learning turned out to be exactly the skill set that has carried me through fellowship and into a competitive subspecialty.

Today, I'm a cardiology fellow serving as chief fellow, with national and international research presentations, publications, and board certifications to show for it. I'm proud to call myself a LECOM grad."

This past summer, I attended the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Summer Leadership Institute in Washington, D.C., joining student pharmacists from across the country to advocate for our patients and profession. Through LECOM, I’ve been given the education, mentorship, and encouragement to take my passion for advocacy beyond the classroom and onto Capitol Hill. Teaching with tofu! Dr. Ronald Torrance II, a LECOM Bradenton alumnus, is a non-surgical orthopedic physician specializing in Sports Medicine at Regenexx at New Regeneration Orthopedics. His clinical practice focuses on Interventional Orthobiologics, offering Regenexx procedures. He uses precise, image-guided injections that use the body’s own healing agents to promote natural recovery.

Dr. Torrance has a passion for teaching and uses tofu to demonstrate ultrasound techniques. The texture of tofu closely mimics soft tissue, providing clear ultrasound images. It’s a fun and engaging way to learn about his work and gain hands-on ultrasound experience! - Olivia Keller

Before attending LECOM Erie, I was a student at the University of Pittsburgh, and my friends and I had the opportunity to travel to Lima, Peru, with MEDLIFE to help set up mobile medical clinics for underserved communities. This experience gave me a new perspective on global healthcare and deepened my appreciation for patient care and service. It remains one of the most impactful experiences of my undergraduate years, and I hope to carry the lessons I learned into my future volunteering and the care I provide to my future patients. -Francesco Cangialosi

My sister, Dr. Anum Qamar (pictured all the way to the right), is a proud graduate of LECOM Elmira, and following in her footsteps has made this campus especially meaningful to me. Elmira offers the perfect balance of focused learning and community — from the collaboration with Elmira College to access to beautiful recreational fields, courts, and libraries.
