Welcome to LECOM in Bradenton, Florida

The continuing demand for primary care physicians, pharmacists, and dentists, and the rapid population growth of Florida led LECOM to open a branch campus between Bradenton and Sarasota.

The campus is in Lakewood Ranch, a master-planned community and one of the fastest-growing areas in the country. The college designed its facility with every detail supporting its mission of teaching students to care for patients.

Two lecture halls use smart classroom technology and have a 210 seats capacity. The 24 smaller classrooms provide ideal environments for the small-group, Problem-Based Learning meetings. A multipurpose lab offers state-of-the art teaching equipment for anatomy and basic science study.

The osteopathic manipulative medicine and multipurpose lab offers ample space and tables for hands-on training. A spacious library provides quiet study areas with scenic views. The student lounge and cafeteria offer daily breakfast and lunch, along with additional study space. Campus-wide wireless access allows students to connect to class notes, databases, and electronic library learning resources from anywhere on campus.

The Lakewood Ranch community has experienced significant growth in recent years, offering a wide range of retail, dining, entertainment, and essential services just minutes from the LECOM Bradenton campus. Students benefit from convenient access to shopping centers, restaurants, recreational facilities, and community events, creating a vibrant and well-rounded environment that supports both academic and personal life.

Problem-Based Learning Pathway (PBL)

PBL emphasizes student-centered, self-directed learning.  The curriculum is presented utilizing clinical case-based scenarios. Small groups meet regularly with a faculty facilitator who guide discussion and support learning.

  • Students work independently and in small groups identifying learning issues and discussing new information relevant to actual patient cases.
  • Groups request additional history and physical results, laboratory tests, and imaging studies to aid in the development of differential diagnoses.
  • Each basic medical science subject is studied, not in isolation, but integrated with other subjects in the context of clinical cases.
