Millcreek Hospital Renamed to LECOM Medical Center and Behavioral Health Pavilion

LECOM Health recently unveiled LECOM Medical Center and Behavioral Health Pavilion as the new name of its flagship hospital during a special ceremony that took place in the Atrium at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) in early February of 2025.

Formerly known as Millcreek Community Hospital, LECOM Medical Center and Behavioral Health Pavilion will feature a new 34,000-square-foot addition that houses a state-of-the-art emergency department and an intensive care unit, including emergency patient rooms dedicated solely to behavioral health.

This revitalized identity is part of the ongoing dedication of LECOM Health to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the region.

From its roots as a one-story hospital to the latest 34,000-square-foot emergency department and intensive care unit facility, the hospital has maintained its prominence in the healthcare of Erie, Pennsylvania residents and of those in the broader region.

“We’re committed to fostering an environment of innovation, compassion, and growth as we look to the future,” said Danielle Hansen, D.O., Regional President of LECOM Health. “The LECOM Medical Center and Behavioral Health Pavilion serves as the launch pad to the next generation of our ongoing commitment to excellent care for those we serve,” Dr. Hansen noted.

The event brought full circle the genesis of the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and its relationship with Millcreek Community Hospital. LECOM Provost, Senior Vice President, and Dean of Academic Affairs, Silvia M. Ferretti, D.O. recalled, with those gathered at the event, the birth of LECOM as the 16th osteopathic medical college in the nation. LECOM was formed in 1992 with a generous contribution from Millcreek Community Hospital.

The funds gave life to the vision of the LECOM founders who, through their astute prescience and vigilant observations, made the decision to open a new school of medicine.
In the years that would follow, the close relationship between Millcreek Community Hospital and LECOM has been wholly synergistic with LECOM scholars training in, and caring for, patients at the Hospital.

Since its founding. LECOM has granted the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Degree to more than 10,000 graduates. For more than three decades, the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine has realized its foundational promise to educate, at the highest level, the next generation of healthcare leaders. With scholars training in the Hospital and engaging in the fullness of clinical education and patient care, LECOM comes full circle with the renaming of Millcreek Community Hospital.

The announcement of this name change marks an ongoing mission to champion opportunity not only for excellence in medical education training, but for a better, brighter, and fuller community vision for the whole of this region and beyond.
