Dr. Munir Syed of LECOM Elmira

Background

Dr. Munir S. Syed M.D., M.Phil., is one of the founding faculty of LECOM at Elmira. He is an Assistant Professor of Pathology and Histology and the Director of the Histology Course. He also facilitates PBL sessions. Dr. Syed has extensive teaching experience. He is a voracious reader and an avid gardener. He was instrumental in establishing the first teaching garden at Elmira College. Some of his research interests include studying: The Effect of Gardening in Reducing Anxiety Among Medical Students; The Effectiveness of Using Digital Media Utilizing Drawing as a Teaching Tool in the Histology Curriculum of First Year Medical Students; and the Role of P.B.L. Discussion in the Making of Well-Rounded Physicians.

Research Interests

  • Leading the Research Project as the Principal Investigator entitled “The Effect of Gardening in Reducing Anxiety Among Medical Students.”
  • Working with an O.M.S. 2nd Year student on a study titled “B.L. Discussion and the Making of Well-Rounded Physicians.”

  • Participated in Poster Presentation on L.E.C.O.M. Research Day 2021. The poster’s title was “Post-Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome – need for diagnosis and treatment”
