LECOM at Elmira bid a bittersweet farewell at their End of the Year Party last spring to Dr. Munir Syed, Assistant Professor of Pathology and Histology, as he embarks on a new chapter at our Bradenton campus! Dr. Syed's dedication to the Elmira community has been truly inspiring. His passion for teaching and his commitment to the Groundbreakers Initiative Group, a therapeutic "Teaching Garden" at Elmira College, has made a significant impact.

LECOM Bradenton Hosts a bloodmobile blood drive with Suncoast Blood Centers!

Hosting a blood drive is a wonderful way to get together and make a difference for your community. The blood drive helps maintain a safe, adequate supply of blood products and positively impacts the lives of local patients in need – as well as their friends and families. Having an adequate supply of blood products on the shelves for local hospitals is vital every day, and especially during a time when the community’s medical resources are operating at full capacity.

In celebration of International Podiatry Day, LECOM Health podiatrists addressed common foot health concerns and provided each resident of Parkside Regency at South Shore with a free pair of comfort wellness shoes.

James Lin, D.O., President of the LECOM Institute for Successful Living, generously donated the shoes on behalf of his family’s wellness footwear business, Oasis Footwear.

Congratulations to Sarah Moyer, a medical student at LECOM Bradenton, for being awarded the Sterling K. Welch Scholarship! The grant is funded by Sterling Welch, D.O. for students who have significant financial need. "I was nominated by Dr. Kauffman because he is aware of my being a single parent and struggling financially while I work my hardest in medical school. So truthfully this was made possible because of the faculty assisting me the best they can to get through school," Moyer said. Congratulations, Sarah!

My name is Morgan Hatlovic, an OMS at the LECOM Bradenton campus. I participated as an anatomy cadaver prosecutor and teaching assistant in the summer and fall of my OMS-2 year. Getting to perform dissections of my choice was a great learning experience for anatomy and a future career in surgery. You must be vigilant of what structures are under your tools or around you to avoid cutting a blood vessel or nerve that is important to dissect! Getting to help teach the first years was also such a great experience to connect again with the anatomy curriculum.

During my second year of medical school, I secured an internship with a local organization in Sarasota, FL known as Florida Area Health Education Center (aka AHEC)! This invaluable experience has not only broadened my understanding of local resources and community organizations but has also provided insights into the health disparities within my community. Through my internship, I have gained valuable knowledge about the actions taken by AHEC to improve community health in the state of Florida. This hands-on experience will undoubtedly enhance my future medical practice, allowing me to connect with local resources and contribute to the betterment of community health. This internship was one of small proactive steps I hope to take towards becoming a physician who is deeply engaged with and responsive to the needs of the community. I encourage all LECOM-Bradenton students-medicine, dental and pharmacy to look into this organization and get involved!
