About Stephany Esper, DO
Research Interests
I was born and raised in Erie, PA. I studied at Gannon University and graduated from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences (now Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine). My father was a surgeon and past president of the AOA so osteopathic medicine is an inherent part of me. I have been teaching the OPP course at LECOM since the inception of this school. I am dual board certified in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine. I am also licensed in acupuncture. I had a private family practice for 30 years before joining the school full-time.
My hobbies include Mahjong, reading, and enjoying time with my husband and three adult children.
As the assistant course director of Osteopathic Principles and Practice (OPP), my colleagues and I study the effectiveness of manipulation on various medical conditions. First, we are studying performance enhancement in college athletes when they receive manipulation. Secondly, we are looking into the benefits of lymphatic treatments in edema when combined with acupuncture. Third, we are about to study acupuncture in peri- and post-menopausal women as a control for vasomotor symptoms. As a member of a robust faculty, we are interested in all ideas pertaining to well-being through manipulation and other modalities that promote a body that can self-heal.
