Background and Experience

Dr. Schiavone earned his medical degree from the University of Bologna, Italy, and has had a longstanding career as a clinician specializing in Internal Medicine. His academic interests center on clinical outcomes and the application of evidence-based medicine to improve patient care.
In his role as a geriatrics preceptor for third-year medical students, he actively mentors learners in clinical reasoning and scholarly activity, encouraging the development and publication of case reports.

He continues to collaborate with faculty on research initiatives examining opioid use trends in Chemung County, while also evaluating pedagogical strategies aimed at enhancing student learning and academic success.

Ongoing scholarly work includes case reports involving a patient with lower extremity contractures complicating subacute combined degeneration secondary to vitamin B12 deficiency, as well as a complex case of synchronous breast cancer and follicular lymphoma.

He previously contributed to the publication Myocarditis in SARS-CoV-2: A Meta-Analysis.
