About Brad E. Hoffman, PhD
Dr. Hoffman is a translational immunologist and Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology with more than 20 years of experience in gene therapy, immune tolerance, and autoimmune disease. He earned his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from Temple University School of Medicine, completed postdoctoral training in Cell and Molecular Therapy at the University of Florida College of Medicine, and holds a BS in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Central Florida. Before joining LECOM, Dr. Hoffman held faculty appointments at the University of Florida College of Medicine and the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine.
His scholarly record includes more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, commentaries, editorials, abstracts, and book chapters. He is also an inventor on multiple national and international patents based on technologies developed through his research program. As a Principal Investigator, Dr. Hoffman has led multidisciplinary teams of scientists, postdoctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students, and technical staff. His research has been supported by multiple NIH grants, competitive foundation awards, industry-sponsored research agreements, and philanthropic donations.
Research Interests:
Dr. Hoffman’s research has focused on the development of translational antigen-specific immunotherapies designed to restore immune tolerance and treat autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. His research centers on a liver-directed gene therapy platform that induces regulatory T cells (Tregs). His work has demonstrated the prevention and reversal of established disease in preclinical models of multiple sclerosis and other immune-mediated conditions. His research has also advanced the understanding of how gene-based therapies can be used to reprogram immune responses and promote durable, disease-specific immune regulation.
