MILESTONE Moment! This picture captures the last day of classes from my OMS-2 year. My classmates and I just finished a series of assessments to prepare for our first board exam together. With everyone splitting off to go home, this dinner together was the last time to connect in person with my study group members, who, through the course of our studies, have become some of my best friends.

Skating for Seniors was a huge success!

LECOM Erie’s Student Government Association hosted a fun night at the LECOM Sports Park filled with skating, ornament-making, and card writing. Guests brought gifts or donated to help brighten Christmas for residents at the LECOM Senior Living Center and our other facilities.
Thanks to everyone who joined in spreading joy – together, we made this season extra special for our seniors!

LECOM at Elmira partners with Corning Inc. Community Impact

The first-ever Southern Tier Health Fair was held in November, thanks to a partnership between LECOM at Elmira and Corning Inc. It was fantastic to see our students fill the turf field, representing student organizations like the Wellness Club and engaging directly with our community on such topics as kidney health and hydration. Engaging the community, public health education, and a team of dedicated volunteer faculty and students made for an unforgettable event!

Congratulations to Dr. Roger Biringer and 12 of his former students on their recent publication in Florida Scientist (Vol. 88, No. 2, Sept. 2025)!
The article, “Regulation of Na+, K+−ATPase by ouabain-like compounds, phytocannabinoids, and endocannabinoids: a potential mechanism of action in migraine,” explores how cannabinoids may influence sodium regulation in the brain — a possible key to better understanding and treating migraine.
Student authors are Emma Barnes, Jack Carter, Min Chae, Zainab Farooq, Morgan Hatlovic, Nhat Huynh, Amish Malli, Alexa Morrow, Genevieve Palmer, Gregory Smith, Marko Velickovic, and Jackson Wren.

Par for the Course: Supporting the Community

AdventHealth Foundation in Florida recently held its Celebrity Golf Tournament, and look who took 3rd place in their flight! My name is Samuel Calkins, and I am a 2nd-year Medical Student at LECOM. I am originally from New Hampshire and attended Houghton University before coming to LECOM through the Early Acceptance Program. I am very happy with the education that I am receiving here so far and would recommend this school as well as the EAP Program to anybody interested in medical school.
The area around Erie, PA, is very beautiful, and there are a lot of unique outdoor activities that you can do when you want to take a break from studying. For instance, there are hiking trails, biking trails, and even cool waterfalls like this one in the area.

Boot Camp makes a difference!

Attending Bootcamp at LECOM was the best decision I made in my medical education!
I was able to adjust to the expectations, workload, and schedule that being enrolled in a medical school requires, and I also met many amazing peer students whom I now consider friends.
I can say without a doubt that attending LECOM's Bootcamp prepared me exceptionally well to meet the challenge of completing Anatomy and adjusting to LECOM's medical school curriculum.

Exploring trauma-informed medicine
LECOM at Seton Hill’s IDEA Club teamed up with the Blackburn Center’s education department for an interactive session on trauma-informed care in medicine. Students explored what trauma is, its impact on patient care and communication, and learned practical strategies for trauma-sensitive interactions.
The event featured expert insights, engaging discussions, and a Q&A – leaving attendees with tools to foster compassion, safety, and connection in healthcare.

Choosing to attend LECOM’s Erie campus was an easy decision for me. I am from western Pennsylvania, and I hope to practice as a physician in this area when I graduate. This location makes it easier for me to balance school and personal life without the added stress of being too far from home. Also, I am to take part in the Lecture Discussion Pathway, which best fits my learning preference. This picture was taken in Watkins Glen, New York, with my best friends, whom I made in medical school. We visited this place right after our last comprehensive anatomy exam to celebrate the end of anatomy. Watkins Glen is only a 35-minute drive from LECOM Elmira, making it an easily accessible, gorgeous destination for LECOM students to explore and unwind. Watkins Glen State Park offers an array of scenic attractions, such as the Gorges with waterfalls and cliffs, hiking trails, camping and picnic areas, and observation decks to view all the colorful trees that are especially beautiful during the fall season.
