Find Balance -
When I first started medical school, I was convinced that my life would revolve entirely around studying and that there would be little room left for myself. I expected long hours and constant pressure, but what I didn’t expect were the friendships, adventures, and personal growth that would come along the way.

Through LECOM, I’ve met some of the most inspiring and supportive people, explored places I never would have otherwise, and created memories that remind me why I chose this path in the first place. While the journey has been challenging, it has also been deeply rewarding, and I’ve learned that balance and connection are just as important as hard work and discipline.

I wouldn’t be where I am today without the constant love and support of my family. Every late-night study session, setback, and small victory, they’ve been there through it all, reminding me why I started this journey. Getting into med school has been a dream come true, but it’s truly a family achievement. Scholar Spotlight: Emma Saubermann
As president of our Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN), I had the privilege of organizing our campus’s participation in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, where we successfully fundraised for patients and families affected by neurodegenerative diseases.

This experience strengthened my leadership skills and deepened my commitment to community-centered care. My education at LECOM has provided not only a strong foundation in medical knowledge but also the opportunity to apply that knowledge through service, advocacy, and teamwork, all preparing me to become a compassionate, community-oriented physician dedicated to improving the lives of patients with neurologic disorders.

LECOM students had a fantastic experience at South Walton Academy, where they discussed the importance of oral hygiene and nutrition with over 40 students across 3 different classrooms. The students shared instructional material and engaged the children with interactive activities.

This is the medical student and Resident team at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, NY. A place for high-quality learning and great hands-on opportunities. Samaritan offers an excellent clinical rotation experience with one-on-one work with attendings as well as great opportunities to gain exposure and competence in a variety of medical specialties.

A Kid-Friendly, Tooth-Friendly Lesson

The Pediatric Club from LECOM School of Dental Medicine visited Risen Savior Learning Academy to teach children ages 2 to 5 about healthy smiles. D1-D3 students led a fun lesson on “tooth-friendly” foods, demonstrated proper brushing and flossing techniques, and let the children practice removing playdough “plaque” from a large tooth model. Each child received a toothbrush, toothpaste, and information about our upcoming Give Kids a Smile event on April 25, where children can receive a free cleaning and sealants if they want.

Congratulations to Duncan Tallman, the recipient of the Global Scholar of the Year award!
Duncan is deeply passionate about global health and service. He has participated in two medical mission trips throughout Latin America and two surgical mission trips across Africa, gaining firsthand experience in delivering care to underserved communities. I had the opportunity to do my third-year rotations in Upstate New York; however, no matter where LECOM students go, they are provided with the environment needed to grow and succeed.
