LECOM Scholars Probe Targeting Signaling Cascades by Bioactive Phytocompounds in Osteosarcoma

The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) proudly recognizes the publication of a significant scholarly review entitled, Targeting Signaling Cascades by Bioactive Phytocompounds in Osteosarcoma:  A Novel Therapeutic Approach, in the prestigious journal Pharmacology and Therapeutics, published by Elsevier.  The journal is recognized internationally for its high impact in the field of pharmacology and biomedical research.

The publication provides a comprehensive and systematic review of the growing body of evidence supporting the role of bioactive phytochemicals – naturally occurring compounds found in plants – in the prevention and treatment of osteosarcoma, the most common primary malignant bone tumor.  Osteosarcoma remains a highly aggressive cancer with significant treatment challenges, underscoring the importance of identifying innovative therapeutic strategies.

Drawing upon extensive preclinical research, the review examines how diverse classes of phytochemicals influence osteosarcoma progression through their effects on key molecular signaling pathways and cellular targets.  By synthesizing current scientific knowledge, the authors highlight the translational potential of these naturally derived compounds and establish a strong foundation for future research aimed at improving prevention and treatment approaches.

The publication also showcases the outstanding scholarly contributions of LECOM students.  Notably, the first seven coauthors are current students or recent graduates of the LECOM College of Osteopathic Medicine, reflecting the institution’s commitment to fostering meaningful student involvement in high-impact biomedical research.

Congratulations to the entire research team on this outstanding achievement and for advancing the scientific understanding of innovative approaches to osteosarcoma therapy.  Their work exemplifies the enduring LECOM mission of excellence in education, research, and the pursuit of discoveries that have the potential to improve patient care worldwide.
