LECOM and MCH Lead All Award Winners at POMA Conference

Richard A. Ortoski, D.O., LECOM Regional Dean; Professor & Chair of Primary Care Education was recently honored with the 2013 Family Physician of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Family Physicians Society (POFPS).  The award was presented to Dr. Ortoski in recognition of his outstanding service to the osteopathic profession and his community.

Richard Ortoski, D.O. receives his Family Physician of the Year award from Suzanne Kelley, D.O., President of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Family Physicians Society.

Board certified in family medicine with certificates of added qualifications in adolescent and young adult medicine, Dr. Ortoski practiced family medicine in Girard and Fairview, Pa. and presently practices through clinics in the Northwest Pennsylvania region.  As Regional Dean, Chair of the Department of Primary Care Education, and a clinical professor of family medicine and human sexuality at LECOM, he is also the clinical director of the LECOM Primary Care Scholars Pathway and faculty advisor for the LECOM Chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP).  A certified HIV specialist, he serves as the HIV medical director of the Northwest Pennsylvania Rural AIDS Alliance and the Chair of the Erie County Board of Health.

A fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, Dr. Ortoski is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, the American Academy of HIV Medicine, the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, the Erie County Department of Health and the National Faculty of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME).  A board member of the POFPS, he was awarded the Frederick J. Solomon, D.O., Award of Merit in 2004.

Dr. Ortoski is originally from New Kensington, PA, attended Mercyhurst University and is a graduate of Allegheny College and a 1984 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.  He completed his postgraduate training at Flint Osteopathic Hospital in Flint, Michigan (Genesys Regional Medical Center, Grand Blanc, MI).

The Family Physician of the Year Award was presented to Dr. Ortoski during the ACOFP/POFPS Luncheon, on May 3, 2013, held in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association’s 105th Annual Clinical Assembly at the Valley Forge Hotels and Convention Complex in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.

Five Medical Residents won top awards in the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association (POMA) Clinical Essay Contest. Headquartered in Harrisburg, the POFPS is a divisional society of the ACOFP, with a membership of over 1,000 osteopathic family physicians, plus residents and interns in Pennsylvania.
