Biography
Dr. Mietzner is an Associate Professor of Microbiology at the LECOM at Seton Hill campus. He is a member of the preclinical sciences for students pursuing a degree ion Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Mietzner’s areas of expertise is in the areas of Microbiolology and Biochemistry. He has been on faculty since 2010 and participates in developing and implementing the Problem Based Learning curriculum used on the Seton Hill campus. In addition to his educational responsibilities, Dr. Mietzner serves as the liason for the Pittsburgh Schweitzer Fellowship Foundation which supports medical student-derived community service projects.
Prior to his time at LECOM, Dr. Mietzner studied at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Stanford University. His first full-time faculty position was at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where he spent 20 years as a tenured professor. During his career he has over 100 peer reviewed original papers, reviews, chapters and patents. He currently is an editor for Medical Microbiology, 28th edition, Jawetz et al.
