About Ellie P.-D. Nguyen, PhD
Dr. Ellie Nguyen is an Associate Professor of Pharmacology at LECOM College of Osteopathic Medicine, Bradenton campus. She earned her PhD in Microbial Sciences from the University of Missouri. Before joining LECOM, Dr. Nguyen was an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at South University School of Pharmacy, where her research focused on levofloxacin-loaded nano-vesicular drug delivery systems to combat resistant bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, together with other projects about pharmacy science education. Previously, Dr. Nguyen served as an Assistant Professor at Oklahoma State University where she developed her research in computational biology in medicine, molecular pathology and science education, securing external grants from OCAST and NSF-EPSCOR.
Research Interests
Dr. Nguyen is involved in the development of novel antimicrobial drugs targeting bacterial enzyme tyrosine phosphatase known to maintain virulence factors and regulate gene expression in Group A Streptococcus infection, a major health concern in many regions of the world, making it a viable target for novel antibacterial discovery. Additionally, she has been developing trustworthy large language models (LLMs) for healthcare, creating rigorous, domain-specific benchmarks that evaluate the accuracy, severity, frequency, and detectability of hallucinated medical information for clinical applications.
Potential research projects:
- Testing the minimum inhibitory concentration of novel antimicrobial drugs targeting bacterial tyrosine phosphatase enzymes.
- Analyzing the gene expression of tyrosine phosphatase enzymes in Group A Streptococcus following exposure to various doses of novel antimicrobial drugs.
- Annotating clinical data for machine-learning applications aimed at evaluating the accuracy, severity, frequency, and detectability of hallucinated medical information.
