Research Interests
Our laboratory studies the effect of diet and nutrition on inflammation and immunity in the steady-state, through chronic disease, and during infection. Our current research focus is divided into 3 main areas. First, we are elucidating the effects of diet and nutrition in a cell culture model of age-related macular degeneration. Second, we are determining the expression of the receptor known as stimulated by retinoic acid 6 (STRA6) on human myeloid leukemia cell lines. Third, we are exploring the effects of long-chain omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on both human myeloid leukemia and age-related macular degeneration.
