Aeryn Fulton, M.D., Ph.D. (COM-Elmira)
Background
Dr. Fulton acquired their M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from West Virginia University after matriculating from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. degree. Dr. Fulton currently serves as the Immunology, Microbiology and Biochemistry subject expert at LECOM’s Elmira, NY campus.
Research Interests
Dr. Fulton is exploring connections between Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) and connective tissue disorders, especially the Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) disorders, using community-sourced subjective data. Aspects include the further characterization of MCAS-EDS by symptomatic association with functional disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Dr. Fulton is clarifying common socio-economic determinants and environmental exposures amongst MCAS-EDS sufferers, compared against unique phenotypic expressions of humoral and innate immune factors. Dr. Fulton is concomitantly characterizing the benefits of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine as applied to MCAS-EDS as an efficacious, non-invasive, non-pharmacologic therapy modality.
