The Thiel College Mentor of the Year Initiative recently has awarded honors to several noteworthy area professionals who have excelled in their careers.
Founded in 1866, Thiel College is an independent college in Greenville, Pennsylvania.
While there are seven categories that have been recognized through the years, new tributes were added this year, including the Leah Dever (Class of 1974) Award.
Susan Calderbank, DMD, Director of Patient Care, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Dentistry, received the first-ever Leah Dever Award for her work in the field of dentistry, as well as for serving as Director of Patient Care LECOM.
Dr. Calderbank, who retired from private practice in Greenville, Pennsylvania after more than 40 years had served as the former Chair of the Pennsylvania State Board of Dental Examiners; and she has lectured both nationally and internationally on the topic of dental care, particularly in the area of treating cancer patients.
Dr. Calderbank and the other professionals were recognized for making an impact as role models for high school and college students through professional achievements and commitment to civic engagement.
The event recognizes extraordinary professional and civic contributions, celebrating the deep connections they foster within the community. Overall, six educators and six professionals from the arts, business, media, science, technology, engineering, math, and education were recognized this year.
“Many of us fondly recall someone who influenced our college choice or career path, and the Mentor Awards is an opportunity to recognize individuals who have profoundly motivated Thiel students,” Thiel College President, Susan Traverso, Ph.D. said.
LECOM extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Susan Calderbank on this recent tribute, one that profoundly underscores the significant impact and contribution of LECOM educators.
