Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) Honors Nancy Peaden for her Exceptional and Distinguished Service as a Member of the LECOM Board of Trustees

For nearly two decades, Nancy Peaden’s unwavering dedication to the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) has helped to shape the College’s success and growth.  With a deep commitment to higher education, healthcare, and community development, Nancy has played a vital role in the LECOM mission to educate future healthcare professionals.  Her leadership extends beyond the boardroom, where she has served stalwartly as an unflagging ally to LECOM.  Nancy has been a strong advocate for the principles of osteopathic medicine and has actively supported initiatives that benefit both the LECOM students and the broader community.  This recognition is a well-deserved tribute to her tireless work and to steadfast devotion to the College.

Additionally, this ceremony honors the lasting legacy of her late husband, Senator Durell Peaden, Jr., whose name graces the LECOM Dental Clinic in DeFuniak Springs, a powerful symbol of his contributions to public service and education.

Senator Durell Peaden, Jr. was a distinguished physician, lawyer, and statesman who devoted his life to serving his community and country.  His career in public service spanned more than 15 years, both in the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida State Senate, where he represented the 2nd District from 2001 to 2010.  Senator Peaden was a passionate advocate for the First Principles of the American founding, always striving to protect the values of faith, family, and freedom.  A physician by training, he was a vocal proponent of osteopathic medicine, understanding the unique and vital role it plays in the healthcare system.  His commitment to healthcare education, particularly at LECOM, was unwavering, and he worked tirelessly to help future generations of doctors and healthcare providers succeed.  His legacy is a living one—continuing to inspire both the LECOM community and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Together, Nancy Peaden and Senator Durell Peaden, Jr. have been invaluable allies to LECOM, with their shared dedication to the values of service, education, and community, leaving an enduring legacy that continues to inspire and strengthen the institution and all who walk its halls.
