Biography
Dr. Munir S. Syed M.D., M.Phil., holds a prominent position at LECOM as a founding faculty member at the Elmira, NY campus but currently resides at the LECOM Bradenton campus. He is Associate Professor of Pathology and Histology, and he is noted for his directorship of the Histology Course and his facilitation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) sessions. With extensive teaching experience, Dr. Syed’s interests extend beyond academia; he is an avid reader and an enthusiastic gardener, having played a pivotal role in establishing LECOM’s inaugural teaching garden at Elmira. Dr. Syed is a certified Master Gardener. He established and donated a vibrant Pollinator Garden to LECOM at Elmira before joining the Bradenton, FL campus. Currently, he is also serving as Director of Medical Microbiology course for the MMS program.
His research endeavors encompass many intriguing topics, including the impact of gardening on reducing anxiety among medical students. Furthermore, he explores innovative teaching methods such as utilizing digital media for drawing in histology education for first-year medical students. Additionally, Dr. Syed investigates the role of PBL discussions in shaping comprehensive medical professionals. Through his multifaceted contributions, Dr. Syed continues to enrich both educational practices and student well-being at LECOM.
