Biography

Bruce Wright is Professor of Physiology at LECOM-Seton Hill. Since 2013, Dr. Wright has been a National Member of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) in the areas of Anatomy and Physiology. As a regular member of the American Physiological Society (APS) for over thirty years, Dr. Wright currently serves as a member of the APS’ Center for Physiology Education Advisory Board, and he also served a three-year term as the Treasurer/Event Coordinator of the APS’ Teaching of Physiology Section. Dr. Wright has over twenty-five years’ experience in medical education. For six years he also served as a full-time faculty member at a liberal arts college. Dr. Wright has taught every topic in physiology to medical students, for up to 1300 students per year, with three incoming classes of medical students per year. Dr. Wright has many years’ experience in curriculum development which included chairing an ad-hoc task force to create and implement a formative assessment program for his medical school. Dr. Wright also has experience teaching in multidisciplinary, organ-based-system curricula in many formats including lecture, small-group problem-based learning, large group team-based learning, flipped classroom settings, synchronous and asynchronous settings, in both in-class and remote presentations. Dr. Wright has served on and/or led several task forces and standing committees at the medical school level and served as president of two faculty senates. Dr. Wright is engaged in educational research on diverse topics including the Wright Table of the Cardiac Cycle, the Wright variant of the Darrow-Yannet diagram, and other topics involving teaching, learning, and assessment. He has presented on these topics nearly every year since 2009 at the national meetings of the APS, most recently in an oral presentation of micro-integration of discipline-based learning objectives in integrated teaching sessions. He is also a former board member (2012-2020) of the Salybia Mission Project, which provides medical and other assistance to the Kalinago (a.k.a. Carib) tribe of Native Americans in Dominica, West Indies.
