Dr. Rami Ahmed, a 2005 Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine – Seton Hill (LECOM – Seton Hill) graduate is a Professor of Emergency Medicine, Simulation Division Chief, and Director of Simulation in the Interprofessional Practice and Education Center at the MGH Institute of Health Professions.
The Cleveland, Ohio native began his journey at John Carroll University, subsequently undertaking his medical training at LECOM. His determination and pledge to service continued as a combat medic in the United States. Army Reserves. After completing his residency in Emergency Medicine at Summa Akron City Hospital, Dr. Ahmed pursued additional specialization, completing a medical simulation fellowship at Harvard Medical School and further earning a Master’s in Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
A Distinguished Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP), Dr.Ahmed is board certified in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. The expert physician has published numerous research studies, underscoring his reputation as a leader in medical simulation.
Upon returning to Summa Akron City Hospital, Dr. Ahmed developed the first medical simulation fellowship in Ohio, where he founded a nationally recognized simulation program. His visionary accomplishments resulted in the graduation of ten simulation fellows, consultation for NASA simulation projects, and co-developing an innovative transvenous pacemaker simulator.
Dr. Ahmed has been honored for his excellence in teaching, receiving many tributes, including the Donald O’Hara Teaching Award at Harvard Medical School in 2009, the Emergency Medicine Residency Faculty of the Year Award in 2010 and 2012, the 2017 ACEP National Faculty Teaching Award, and the SAEM Simulation Academy Distinguished Educator Award in 2020.
Training emergency medicine residents to become effective team leaders is his mission.
Dr. Ahmed and his wife, a pediatric palliative care physician at Riley Children’s Hospital have
two sons.
