Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) is pleased to announce that Abigail Abraham, a fourth-year Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine scholar, delivered a podium presentation at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition in San Diego, California held October 2–6, 2026.
Her presentation entitled, Artificial Intelligence Translation in Pediatric Refugee Health: Clinical, Ethical, and Equity Consideration, explored the way in which artificial intelligence may improve healthcare access for refugee children and families, particularly in resource-limited, high-volume, and emergency settings.
Abraham also emphasized that current AI translation tools are not reliable substitutes for professional interpreters and may deepen inequities without appropriate ethical safeguards.
LECOM is committed to supporting its students as they pursue research and share their work with the broader medical community. Abraham’s presentation reflects the value of that support and the meaningful contributions that students can make to conversations shaping the future of healthcare.
