The Annual Meeting was held from July 26–29, 2026, in Orlando, Florida, bringing together researchers, educators and students from across the country to share advancements in the field of parasitology.

The LECOM team presented their research, entitled, The Use of Zero Valent Iron to Bind Coccidian Parasites and Magnetic Attraction to Remove Oocysts. Their award-winning work explored an innovative approach to binding coccidian parasites using zero valent iron and subsequently using magnetic attraction to remove oocysts.

The research was conducted under the expert guidance of Matthew Tucker, Ph.D., LECOM Assistant Professor of Microbiology, whose mentorship supported the students throughout the research process in preparation of their presentation.

In addition to the Meritorious Poster Presentation Award, Madison Eshleman, received the prestigious ASP Marc Dresden Travel Award, recognizing her participation and supporting her attendance at the national meeting.

The accomplishments of the LECOM team highlight the value of student involvement in scientific research and the opportunities available to LECOM students to present their work at national professional conferences. Their recognition at the ASP Annual Meeting reflects their dedication to advancing research and contributing to the scientific community.

Their success is a wonderful reflection of the opportunities provided through a LECOM education, where students are encouraged to pursue meaningful research, develop their expertise, and make valuable contributions to the scientific community.
