Biography

Dr. Vikas Khurana is a highly accomplished physician and innovator, recognized for his dual expertise in gastroenterology and artificial intelligence. He currently serves as a Gastroenterologist at Community Health Systems Regional and Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania. In addition, he leads the Gastroenterology Fellowship Program at The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education as Program Director, where he plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of specialists.

Board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, Dr. Khurana completed his residency at the State University of New York Health Science Center in Brooklyn and his fellowship at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He further enhanced his leadership and strategic capabilities by earning an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Since 2019, Dr. Khurana has been at the forefront of integrating artificial intelligence into clinical practice. His research spans computer vision, natural language processing, machine learning, deep neural networks, and agentic AI systems. With the advent of large language models, he has focused on developing HIPAA-compliant, off-grid AI solutions tailored to internal medicine, gastroenterology, and cardiology.

His innovative work has been recognized through a National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant for a project aimed at mitigating pigmentation-related inaccuracies in pulse oximetry using AI. Under his leadership, his team has made significant progress in building domain-specific large language models for healthcare applications.

Dr. Khurana is also deeply committed to medical education and AI literacy. He is actively developing a curriculum to introduce AI concepts to medical students and residents and leads a seminar series on healthcare AI applications for professionals in the Scranton area.
