Celebrating Student Achievement: LECOM Scholar Places Second at SOMA Fall Research Symposium

The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) is delighted to announce that second-year student Fizza Ahmed earned second place at the prestigious National Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) Fall Research Symposium held on October 25, 2025.

Ahmed’s exceptional presentation, Significant Improvement of Fibromyalgia Symptoms with Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment: A Case Report, captured the attention of leading osteopathic professionals.

This student-led case study was conducted through a collaborative mentorship with Dr. Sahar Hafeez.  Within this collaborative mentorship, Dr. Hafeez facilitated and supported Ahmed’s research objectives by providing academic guidance and scholarly insight, while Ahmed actively carried out the research undertaking.  The study highlights the positive effects of osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) in managing fibromyalgia symptoms.

Ahmed’s innovative research reflects her initiative and commitment to scholarly inquiry, as well as the high-quality academic environment fostered at LECOM.

Congratulations to Fizza Ahmed on this remarkable achievement, further underscoring LECOM’s support of student-led scholarly research.
