Student Spotlight: David Lyskowski Presents at American College of Chest Physicians Annual Meeting

In a notable achievement for the next generation of osteopathic physicians, fourth-year Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) student, David Lyskowski, recently presented a poster at the prestigious American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) Annual Meeting held in Chicago, Illinois, from October 19-22, 2025.

His research, entitled, Not Your Average Nodules: A Case of Pulmonary Amyloidosis Diagnosed in the Setting of Sjögren’s Disease, explores a rare and complex medical case that is sure to captivate the attention of the pulmonary and rheumatology communities.

Lyskowski’s presentation delved into the diagnosis of pulmonary amyloidosis, a rare condition where amyloid deposits accumulate in the lungs, often leading to symptoms such as cough, difficulty breathing, and chest pain. What made this case particularly unique was the context in which the diagnosis was made: the patient also had Sjögren’s disease, an autoimmune disorder commonly associated with dry eyes, dry mouth, and systemic inflammation.

The complexity of diagnosing pulmonary amyloidosis in the setting of an autoimmune disease like Sjögren’s is a challenging aspect of modern medicine, which Lyskowski highlighted through his detailed poster presentation.  His research not only advanced understanding of this rare co-occurrence, but also sparked important conversations among medical professionals about diagnostic approaches and treatment strategies.

Lyskowski’s opportunity to present at the ACCP meeting was a testament to his hard work and dedication to advancing medical knowledge. It also serves as a reminder of the critical role that LECOM students play in pushing the boundaries of all that we know about diseases, their presentations, and their treatments.
