Biography

Dr. Jennifer Cummings, D.O., is a passionate Emergency Medicine Specialist and educator committed to advancing local, regional, and global health equity. Her interest in international work and health equity was ignited during brief experiences in Mexico and Honduras as a medical student. During her fourth year of medical school, she received a MAP/Readers Digest Fellowship Grant, which funded a 2-month rural rotation in the southern Philippines. Throughout her Residency, she again secured funding for a medical trip to the Philippines. After completing certification and clinical work in Baltimore, Dr. Cummings pursued opportunities abroad with her family, focusing on Emergency Medicine Development. She played a vital role in advancing Emergency Medicine through education in Central Asia for a nonprofit group supported by USAID and the World Bank. Following 7 years of dedicated overseas work in Central Asia, she presented part of her work as an abstract in the Annals of Emergency Medicine Journal. She delivered a keynote address at Grand Rounds at Albert Einstein Emergency Medicine residency in Philadelphia. Upon relocating to Pittsburgh with her family, she continued her clinical work in Urgent Care and assumed the role of Area Medical Director overseeing 10 Urgent Care centers. Additionally, she actively contributed to developing and teaching a Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant Fellowship program. Dr. Cummings also participated in two short-term Emergency Medicine teaching trips to Ukraine. She is deeply passionate about teaching ECGs and engaging in Simulation training. Dr. Cummings is currently pursuing additional Certification in Addiction Medicine. Her unwavering commitment to research is evidenced by her involvement in addiction medicine and Urgent Care medicine research. Dr. Cummings successfully implemented the “Bridging the Gaps” program at LECOM Seton Hill and remains dedicated to supporting LECOM-Seton Hill students in their volunteer efforts within the local area.
