From charging waves to charging for my DO degree, my education and experience at LECOM has been more than I could have anticipated. I chose the PBL pathway because it allows me to actively use my unique experiences while also learning from the experiences of others in a case-based approach. PBL has constantly challenged me to approach patient cases holistically, think critically, and further develop my skills in osteopathic medicine and patient care.

Hello, my name is Christina Witters an OMS from Rochester, NY and a graduate of SUNY Fredonia. I am currently attending the LECOM-Erie Campus in the LDP pathway. I chose the LDP pathway because while pursuing my undergraduate degree lecture-guided classes were where I learned I was able to flourish and obtain the best education. Learning from professors and having in-class interactions guide me to unleash my full potential. I chose the Erie campus because when I first visited during my EAP interview, I immediately felt at home with the friendly faces at LECOM and the sense of community in Erie. Being a part of EAP helped me in my undergraduate degree because I was able to concentrate on my studies and learn the most I could without having the stress of undergoing the application cycle for medical school during my junior and senior years!

After learning more about LECOM’s DMD program at the Bradenton Campus, I feel I can truly make a difference and bring comfort and compassion to people who need it most. I also believe by applying the problem-based learning techniques learned at the school, I will have a deeper understanding of the medical and societal needs and will be better able to serve the community. I am confident that with LECOM’s guidance I can deliver the best healthcare outcomes to patients.

In this photo, my classmates and I had a wonderful opportunity to provide mouthguards to high school athletes. After taking an impression of their mouth, we were able to create each mouthguard custom fitted to each student to help decrease the risk of any dentofacial injuries.

I chose LECOM primarily for its outstanding reputation in the field of healthcare education and its commitment to producing competent medical professionals. The lecture pathway (LDP) aligned perfectly with my learning style and preferences, allowing me to break up information into manageable chunks, in line with my study principles. Opting for the Erie campus provided access to excellent resources and faculty, enhancing my learning experience. Being part of the MMS program at LECOM greatly helped me by providing a solid foundation in medical sciences, reinforcing my knowledge, and preparing me for the rigorous coursework ahead in my pursuit of becoming a radiologist.

During the beginning of the fall semester, OMS-2 student government of LECOM-SH hosts a picnic where first- and second-year students come together and learn about the clubs and organizations on campus. It was a wonderful way to meet newcomers to the campus and to reunite with members of my class. This picture is so special to me because it shows how much my friends and I have bonded; just a year prior to this event we were getting to know one another. Now, thanks to getting involved in groups at LECOM-SH, they have become some of my best friends. One of my greatest passions is being around or working with children. Starting when I was still a kid myself, I've taken any chance possible to put myself in an experience that centered around them, including babysitting, substitute teaching, and volunteer opportunities. So, when I came to LECOM, I was searching for a way to continue doing so and was lucky to have the opportunity to participate in the Mentoring Club. I've had so much fun so far hanging out and playing games with the kids in the Erie community at the YMCA Kids Club and hope to continue throughout the rest of my time here!

Hey! My name is Trinity Tartaro, and I am currently in my first year at LECOM's Erie campus. I graduated from SUNY Fredonia in 2023 and was part of LECOM's Early Acceptance Program. During my first year here in Erie, I have learned to not only prioritize my schoolwork but to also prioritize my mental health. Medical school is not an easy journey, but it is so important to maintain a healthy headspace and mindset as we pursue our passion for becoming osteopathic physicians. I really enjoy attending LECOM because of their proud ideologies of preaching the osteopathic principle of Mind, Body, and Soul. This picture shows a time where I drove to the beautiful local beach to watch the sunset and clear my head as a little break from my studies!

As an EMT, every emergency call and patient encounter was a learning opportunity. Each experience, whether routine or complex, contributed to my growth and expertise in pre-hospital care.

The exposure to diverse medical scenarios also helped me discover my passion for helping others and my curiosity in understanding the physiological and pathological mechanisms at play in them.

LECOM Bradenton Emergency Medicine on campus organization recently hosted a mass casualty incident (MCI) drill in partnership with Duette Fire and Rescue!

A mass casualty incident (MCI) is a practice exercise that simulates a mass casualty incident and tests the response of emergency services. MCI drills can be used to evaluate and improve emergency preparedness, and to train first responders.

LECOM Bradenton Emergency Medicine on campus organization recently assisted Manatee County Search and Rescue on sight at their recent holiday 5k.

Students were on scene to gather valuable on hands knowledge and education as they assisted first aid at the 5k. Students are grateful for the continues opportunities

Manatee County Search and Rescue has offered them to assist and learn in the community.

LECOM Bradenton Emergency Medicine on campus organization recently hosted a POCUS lecture and workshop courtesy of Dr. Gomez and Dr. Leonard of HCA Brandon Hospital.

POCUS stands for point-of-care ultrasound, which is a bedside ultrasound performed by a healthcare professional to quickly diagnose a patient. It's a standard procedure in emergency, obstetric, and musculoskeletal medicine.

Congratulations to OMS-IV Tristan Palmer for being selected as LECOM-Erie's nominee for the Student DO of the Year Award (SDOY)!

The SDOY is an award presented annually by the Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents, a council of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, to students who go above and beyond the average osteopathic medical student. Tristan's academics, community service, leadership, and research experiences make him an excellent candidate, and we wish him the best of luck representing LECOM-Erie for this prestigious award.
