For most of her career in pediatrics, Karen Benedum, M.D., was at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh (now UPMC Mercy). She completed her residency in pediatrics at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh in 1985. She then joined the faculty staff at Mercy. From 1985-89, she fulfilled a National Health Service Corps (NHSC) commitment at Arlington Heights Primary Care Center, a Mercy Hospital site. She was certified in general pediatrics in 1987. She served as Director of Ambulatory Pediatrics and as Vice Chairperson of the Department of Pediatrics. In 2004, she became the Chairperson of Pediatrics a Mercy. She served in that capacity until she left Mercy in June 2009. She joined LECOM at Seton Hill in January 2010 as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics. At LECOM at Seton Hill, she is a PBL facilitator and Director of Exam Management.
