CBD Oil: What’s Right for Me?

Friday, 28 February 2020

Cannabidiol (CBD) usage in the United States has taken off in recent years due to its perceived potential for treating a wide variety of health issues. With so many brands and retailers of CBD products, it’s hard for consumers to find an answer to a simple question: What is a good quality CBD oil?  Luckily, one of our LECOM Pharmacists, Dr. Rebecca Miller Wise, who specializes in integrative medicine, has some tips for consumers to help them choose the right product.

Read Carefully: “Sometimes the concentration of CBD in the product is quite small and there may even be other ingredients in higher amounts. Along this thought – use the exact same product every time so you get consistent results. Do your research and choose what is right for your symptoms.”

Color: “The oil color should look similar to honey, or even lighter, never green or black. But again, read the product to be sure it’s not just food coloring.”

Contents: “It should have lots of cannabinoid compounds in it, not just CBD. These include CBC and CBG and they help enhance the therapeutic effects. The combination of over 150 compounds create a synergy that has a better impact.”

Food Grade: “If it doesn’t say that it’s safe to consume, then I wouldn’t use it – not even topically.”  From gas stations to online retailers, CBD oil is everywhere and it isn’t going away anytime soon. Use these tips to make sure you get the right one for you.

Dr. Wise is an alumna from our inaugural LECOM School of Pharmacy class and professor who teaches our students Complimentary and Alternative Medicine. Additionally, she is the clinical administrator at the LECOM Center for Health and Aging.
