Safe Kids Erie
Safe Kids Erie Coalition now part of LECOM Community Outreach
On September 24, 2014, the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) and the Erie County Department of Health announced that LECOM has agreed to serve as the lead agency for the Safe Kids Erie program.
Since 1991, Safe Kids Erie has worked with local parents and families to raise awareness of injury prevention through educational programs and community initiatives. LECOM was the first safety partner of Safe Kids Erie when the college opened in 1993 and is now responsible for the program, which had been administered by the Department of Health.
Safe Kids Erie Mission Statement
The mission of the organization is to increase public awareness that injuries can be prevented; to initiate injury prevention policies at the local, state, and national level; to educate parents and caregivers to provide a safer environment for children; and to promote safety education to children and youth in the major risk areas of traffic, water, fire, poison and drowning prevention.
