“The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy is very excited that Dr. Bell has accepted the appointment as Advocacy Committee Chair,” said Peggy Piascik, Ph.D., President of the organization. “We’re confident his expertise and leadership will be a great benefit to the AACP and its members.”
The Advocacy Committee includes issue-specific workgroups that help the AACP develop and implement public policy. The workgroups will focus on wellness and health promotion, community engagement, and the scholarship of engagement, and will make recommendations to local, state, and federal agencies.
In July 2009, Dr. Bell was named to his current position as Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the School of Pharmacy. Since 2004, he also has served as Clinical Professor of Family Medicine and as Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Evaluation. He continues to teach in the Master of Science in Medical Education program that he helped establish at LECOM.
Dr. Bell’s honors include being named a Charter Fellow of the National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators and as a recipient of LECOM’s John and Silvia Ferretti Award for Distinguished Teaching.
Rebecca Miller Wise, Pharm.D., Director of Admissions for the LECOM School of Pharmacy and Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice, gave a poster presentation at the AACP’s annual meeting. Her presentation, “Theatre Without Popcorn – An Innovative Approach for Information Review In An Accelerated Pharm.D. Program,” focused on a pilot study she developed with Sachin Devi, Ph.D., Director of Curriculum for the School of Pharmacy at LECOM’s campus in Bradenton, Fla.

The pilot study was designed to help students in an accelerated pharmacy program, such as the one offered at LECOM’s Erie campus, better retain course content and perform optimally on the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX). Dr. Wise chose “Theatre Without Popcorn,” as a title because she presented the content, to include clinical and drug information and generic equivalents, in a series of slides similar to those shown before a movie.
Students responded positively to the pilot study, with the slide presentations to be continued in the next academic year.
Dr. Wise earned a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Her areas of interest include innovative methods of instruction, improved management techniques, ambulatory care in pharmacy, medication therapy management, and women's and family medicine.
Founded more than a century ago, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) is a national organization that strives to advance pharmacy education, research, scholarship, practice, and service so as to positively impact societal health.
The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine offers innovative and affordable education in osteopathic medicine, dentistry and pharmacy. From campuses in Erie, Pennsylvania, Greensburg, Pennsylvania and Bradenton, Florida, LECOM believes that when mind, body and spirit come together the impossible becomes suddenly possible. It is a calling each and every one of our students embodies to become the best they can be. To prevent disease and treat it. To give hope. Can you hear the calling?
