In spite of our best efforts to achieve an opening for the LECOM Medical Fitness and Wellness Center in January, the opening has been pushed into February. We appreciate your patience and we will notify everyone as soon as we have a firm date. We assure our students, faculty, staff and Wellness Center members that we are working to build the highest quality facility that everyone expects from LECOM and we are excited about how incredible the Center will be once we open.

The Wellness Center staff has prepared information about the various programs and services available through the center at its temporary sales office at 5761 Peach St., in the LECOM Student Center. The LECOM Medical Fitness & Wellness Center offers membership programs and services for individuals who want to improve their quality of life and overall health and well-being. Unlike traditional fitness centers, members’ experiences will begin with personalized Health & Fitness assessments conducted by a health promotion expert. In keeping with the Osteopathic philosophy of nurturing the mind, body and spirit, the staff of the Wellness Center will approach health and fitness from a holistic, medically integrated perspective.

The nationally acclaimed health-care architectural and design firm of Marshall Erdman and Associates developed the plans which integrate the amenities of the fitness center with the clinical needs of patients in a three-story building. The architects have created a healthy lifestyle atmosphere that welcomes visitors and draws them into the fitness center that occupies the first two floors.

The first level offers a day spa, three swimming pools and dedicated aerobics, yoga and Pilates studios. A cycle (spinning) studio is located on the second floor. The center includes basketball and racquetball courts, a snack bar and Internet café, as well as meeting rooms, offices and a child-care area.

A three-lane, nine laps per mile cushioned walk/jog track circles the second floor surrounding state-of-the-art exercise equipment for cardio training, strength training and also free weights. More than 130 pieces of cardio and strength training equipment will be available, along with attached personal LCD screens on cardio equipment.

Additional Wellness Center amenities include:
- Wellness education classes, nutrition classes, and cooking demonstration kitchen
- Degreed & certified health and fitness professionals
- Extensive schedule of land & aquatic group exercise classes
- Aquatics center including: 25 meter lap pool, exercise pool, and warm water therapy pool
- Indoor ~ 1/9 of a mile indoor walking/jogging track
- Zen garden
- Executive style locker rooms with steam room, sauna, and whirlpool in each

Fee-for-service amenities include:
- Massage and other therapeutic spa services
- Golf simulation and instruction center
- Childcare services
- Nutrition/dietary counseling services
- Heart healthy café
- Personal training

The third floor will house clinical and administration offices for Medical Associates of Erie. MAE will offer Internal Medicine, Integrative Medicine, Geriatrics, Orthopedic Surgery, Sports Medicine and OB-GYN care from this location and relocate physicians from scattered locations in Erie.
