LECOM Joins Edinboro University to Host Founders of Bioethics International Conference

It is with eager anticipation that Lake
Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine announces the “Founders of Bioethics International Congress”
event to be held from June 1st through June 5th of this year at Edinboro University in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. Funded by a grant
from Russell B. Roth, this cutting edge conference will provide an opportunity for attendees to meet
the founders of this innovative field in medicine and to engage in discussions about the pioneering
work and the way in which it is affecting current issues in healthcare.
The distinguished Keynote Speakers appearing this year will be Edmund Pelligrino,
MD and Daniel Callahan, PhD. Dr. Pelligrino is the Recent Chair of the President’s Council of Bioethics and the John Carroll
Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Medical Ethics. He is the Senior Research Scholar at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown
University. As the former Director of the Kennedy Institute of Ethics, Dr. Pelligrino now serves on
the Center for the Advanced Study of Ethics and the Center for Clinical Bioethics at Georgetown
University. Dr. Callahan is the Senior Research Scholar and President Emeritus at The Hastings
Center, and Co-director of the Yale-Hastings Program in Ethics and Health
Policy.
In addition to these recognized doctors, there are a host of well-known topical
speakers who will address various areas of concern and focus in the field. The five-day event will
be appointed with the fineries of conference activities including a wine reception, a book signing,
small group discussions, and break-out sessions. LECOM proudly serves as a conference sponsor
along with St. Vincent
Health System, The Pennsylvania Medical
Society’s Institute for Good Medicine, Highmark, The Hess, Roth Kaminsky Fund of The Erie Community Foundation,
Borvine Beverage, and Edinboro University. Continuing education credits are available
for physicians (DO and MD) as well as nurses, social workers, and attorneys.
This conference
will provide an exceptional opportunity for anyone interested in the impact of bioethics upon
society and in the ramifications that it has upon current events to take part in understanding the
