LECOM goes smoke-free
Millcreek Health System set to enforce no-smoking policy
Students, faculty and staff of the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine learned
recently that the entire Millcreek Health System is now enforcing a strict no-smoking policy,
effective Jan. 1, 2009.
"Because Millcreek Health
System cares about the health of our employees, students and visitors, we have made a commitment to
go 'smoke-free,'" according to a memorandum released in advance of the policy's effective
date.
The new policy will prohibit smoking on all property held by Millcreek Health Systems,
including LECOM, Millcreek Community Hospital, Medical Associates of Erie, Millcreek Manor and the
LECOM Medical Fitness and Wellness Center when it opens its doors later this year. Employees will
not be allowed to smoke at any time during their shift. Areas covered by this policy will include
parking lots, vehicles, and any other areas where smoking was previously permitted.
Millcreek Health System employees will have access to information and help if they are looking
for information on how to quit smoking.
