Patricia Matto,
D.O., was more than happy to field questions from eager LECOM Bradenton students regarding clinical
rotations, internships and residency opportunities.
It wasn't that long ago that Matto
was in the same position as a member of LECOM's Class of 1997.
LECOM Bradenton third-year
osteopathic medical student Monique Sajjad hears about residency opportunities from Hina Siddiqui,
D.O.
"Start early, organize well and
plan ahead," said Matto to the current group of osteopathic medical students at LECOM
Bradenton's annual Hospital Day on Nov. 13. "When choosing a specialty or residency, it's
important to think long term."
Matto represented Aultman Hospital - a LECOM affiliate -
in Canton, Ohio. Aultman was one of 43 hospitals from 10 states to participate in the event, held at
the Harvest United Centre in Bradenton, Fla.
Hospital Day is a time for current LECOM
osteopathic medical students to learn about clinical rotations, internships and residency options
that are available at hospitals around the country.
"This is a great opportunity for
students to see what opportunities are available at various hospitals with teaching programs,"
said Robert George, D.O., LECOM Bradenton Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.
Second-year
LECOM Bradenton medical student Esther Mihindu said the event was very helpful.
"As a
second-year (medical) student, it helps to talk to people about rotations and plan down the road
for residencies," she said. "It is great that the DMEs (directors of medical education)
were here to answer questions."
