The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Board of Trustees visited the College’s newest location in Greensburg, Pennsylvania and toured the new renovations for LECOM at Seton Hill. Workers are nearly finished converting parts of two buildings that LECOM leases from Seton Hill University to house medical college classes.

Most of the renovations are located in Lynch Hall where former undergraduate classroom space has been remodeled for offices and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) classrooms. That building also houses a 200-seat arena-style lecture hall offering wireless internet connections for students during class. LECOM will install the latest smart-classroom audio/video equipment in the lecture hall in time for the start of classes in late July.

Across the road at Reeves Memorial Library, LECOM has finished space for a new Osteopathic Principles and Practice laboratory. Just off that room, the College has remodeled a section of the Reeves Library for its own Learning Resource Center. Students can study in individual carousels or at large work tables with easy access to publications and printed learning materials.

LECOM at Seton Hill, an additional location for LECOM Erie, has begun accepting students for the Class of 2013. The College will enroll 104 students per class. All LECOM at Seton Hill students will enroll in the PBL pathway. The Problem-Based Learning Pathway is an internationally recognized, innovative approach to medical education. PBL emphasizes student-centered, self-directed learning through small group interaction and limited faculty involvement.
