Resources for LECOM IRB Members
The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) is a
comprehensive program that is dedicated to ensure the rights, welfare, safety, privacy and
confidentiality of human subjects participating in research under the auspices of The Lake Erie
College of Osteopathic Medicine. All individuals involved are guided by the ethical principles
regarding all research involving humans as subjects as set forth in the report of the National
Commission for the Protections of Human Subjects of Biomedical and Behavioral Research, entitled:
Ethical Principles and Guidelines for the Protections of Human Subjects of Research (the Belmont
Report) and the LECOM Institutional Review Boards Human Subjects Research Standard Operating
Procedures Manual. The LECOM Human Research Protection Program, IRB members, LECOM Office of
Research staff, research staff, and investigators are expected to understand, adhere and apply
their obligation to protect the rights and welfare of research participants. All must receive
appropriate training in Human Subjects Research for the CITI Human Subjects Research training
program prior to beginning their participation in the HRPP program or utilizing Human Subjects in
any research protocol.
