Preventative Health Testing

Ankle/Brachial Index
Also known as ABI, Doppler ultrasound and a blood pressure cuffs are used to measure and compare the ratio of the blood pressure in the lower legs to that of the arms. Lower blood pressure in the leg compared to the arm can indicate blocked arteries or peripheral arterial disease.

Pulmonary Function Tests
These tests measure how well the lungs take in and release air and how well they move gases such as oxygen and carbon dioxide into and out of the body's circulation. In a spirometry test, you breathe into a mouthpiece that is connected to an instrument called a spirometer. The spirometer records the amount and the rate of air that you breathe in and out over a period of time.

Electrocardiography (also known as ECG)
An ECG is a noninvasive recording of the heart activity using an electrocardiographic device. More specifically, the electrical activity of the heart over time is recorded by using skin electrodes. The resulting display shows overall rhythm of the heart and can show abnormalities in the rhythm or structure of the heart.

Cardiac Stress Test
Completed at Millcreek Community Hospital directly beside the LECOM Medical Fitness and Wellness Center, the cardiac stress test is used to measure the heart's ability to respond to external stress. The stress response is induced by exercise in a controlled environment. This test detects abnormal blood flow to the myocardium by comparing coronary circulation at rest with that of coronary circulation during physical exertion. This test can be used to diagnose ischemic heart disease.
