Two of only four osteopathic physicians in the nation chosen as Outstanding residents of the Year by the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF), are in Erie postdoctoral education programs at Millcreek Community Hospital (MCH).
Joshua A. Tuck, D.O. is a fourth-year orthopedic surgery chief resident at MCH; John L. Weippert, D.O., is a Gastroenterology Fellowship candidate at MCH.
Drs. Tuck and Weippert received their awards during a special ceremony at Epcot World Showcase in Orlando on October 29 prior to the start of OMED 2011, the American Osteopathic Association annual conference.

Dr. Tuck received his D.O. degree from the University of New England College Of Osteopathic Medicine and is a graduate of Notre Dame College. He completed an internship at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda and served as the medical officer for the “Fighting Tigers” of Patrol Squadron Eight in Brunswick, Maine. Dr. Tuck also served four years of active duty in the Navy, including a six-month deployment to the Middle East, and was selected to the NASA Shuttle Medical Support Team as the flight surgeon for a 2007 Endeavour shuttle mission. He has received numerous awards, including the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
Dr. Weippert received his medical degree from Ohio University College of Medicine and his undergraduate degree from the University of Toledo. He completed an Internal Medicine residency at St. Joseph Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio, where he served as Chief Resident in the program.
Candidates for the AOF Outstanding Resident award must be in their 2nd through last year of an AOA-approved residency program and have demonstrated exceptional dedication to their profession, according to Frank Tursi, D.O., Director of Medical Education at Millcreek Community Hospital.
MCH has the largest postdoctoral education program of any hospital in northwestern Pennsylvania, with physician residencies in Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT); Family Practice; Internal Medicine; Ophthalmology; Orthopedics; Podiatric Medicine and Surgery; and Psychiatry. In addition, MCH offers Fellowships in Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, NMM Plus One, and Sports Medicine.
