LECOM well represented at Pharmacist Legislative Day

On April 8, several first- and second-year LECOM School of Pharmacy students participated in a daylong event in Harrisburg, Pa., intended to bring together pharmacy students and state legislators to discuss those issues and concerns the state’s future medical professionals face once they complete their schooling.

Pharmacy students from LECOM joined others from around the state in Harrisburg, Pa., on April 8.

LECOM was represented by Kim Burns, RPh, JD, Assistant Professor; Dolores Kutzer, PharmD, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice; second-year students Jeff Bucci, Lyman Holyoak, John Kevin McGill, Phil Olsen and Megan Rech; and first-year students Megan Anderson, Marcus Babiak, Stephen Brown, Jamie Caputo, Jason Chan and Emily Wysocki.

LECOM students participated with the Pennsylvania Pharmacist Association and the other six schools of pharmacy around the state to provide health screenings and education on various disease states and preventive measures that pharmacists can provide. LECOM hosted a table with pharmacy provided immunizations.

The students took time to meet with state legislators representing the Erie region, including state Reps. Florindo Fabrizio, John Hornaman and Jane Earll. They also took part in a Student Lobby Day press conference in the Harrisburg Capitol Rotunda, sponsored by the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania.
