LECOM students present Bridging the Gaps projects

On Aug. 28, several second-year LECOM osteopathic medical students displayed the successes and lessons learned from summertime community projects throughout the Erie area as part of the Bridging the Gaps program. Following an introduction by Kim Moscatello, Ph.D., LECOM Assistant Professor of Microbiology/Immunology and Bridging the Gaps Coordinator, students discussed their experiences working in the community.

LECOM students who participated in the program this year include: Filip Moshkovsky, Student Coordinator; Trevor Phinney, Student Coordinator; Robert Allison; Kelly Birchenough; Nicole Cerklewich; Christopher Cook; Sara Crissman; Lisa Delluomo; Ratna Ganabathi; Beena Iype; Shannon Moore; Crystal Roman; Mary Rosendale; Brian Singletary; Jennifer Szempruch; Peter Thomas and Michael Yurkewicz.

Those involved with the implementation of the Bridging the Gaps program at LECOM include Dr. Moscatello; Ann Stephanie Stano, Ph.D., SSJ, Educational Administrator; Mathew Bateman, Ph.D., Bridging the Gaps Coordinator; and Kerry Branton, Administrative Assistant. In addition to these LECOM faculty members, those who served as academic preceptors for the program in 2008 include Mark Andrews, Ph.D.; Michael Bradbury, Ph.D.; Thomas Corso, Ph.D.; Jonathan Kalmey, Ph.D.; Chris Keller, Ph.D. ; Margie Latimer, M.B.A., C.P.A.; Steven Levy, M.D., F.A.C.P.; Donald Linville, Ph.D.; Theodore Makoske, M.D.; and Beth Ricci, D.O.

Bridging the Gaps began in Philadelphia in 1991 at one academic health center. The program is now administered by the Bridging the Gaps Consortium, comprised of members from seven Pennsylvania academic health centers, including LECOM.
