LECOM Pharmacy Students Qualify for National Competition

Third-year Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Pharmacy students Lindsay Bouwkamp-Aldous and Beatrice Adams are on their way to California after winning the local American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) clinical skills competition.

Beatrice Adams and Lindsay Bouwkamp-Aldous will represent LECOM at the ASHP National Clinical Skills Competition in Anaheim, CA.

“We are very excited to be the first team from LECOM’s Bradenton campus to represent the College at the National competition,” said Adams. “It’s hard to determine whether we had won following our presentation, but we felt like we did well.”

Third-year students Traci Rizzo and Christian Mychajlonka from LECOM’s Erie, PA campus finished second.

Fourteen teams from LECOM’s Bradenton, FL and Erie, PA campuses participated in the competition. Student teams were given two hours to evaluate a patient case and develop a pharmacy care plan.

The top two teams presented their cases to a panel of judges. Scores from the oral and written competitions were added together to determine the winner.

Bouwkamp-Aldous and Adams will compete in the ASHP’s National Clinical Skills Competition on Dec. 4 in Anaheim, CA.
